The United States is home to people of many different cultures.  On November 1st, Diwali and Día de los Muertos are celebrated.  Learn more about these cultural celebrations and create a rangoli and a cavalera which are symbols of these celebrations.

  • Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Newar Buddhists. It represents the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. Materials will be available to create a rangoli, which is a traditional Indian art form of colorful patterns drawn on the floor during the festival of Diwali.
  • Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, is a time for Mexicans to honor the deceased and welcome their spirits back. Cavalera are colorfully decorated skulls to represent loved ones. Though they are often made of wood, paper mache or sugar paste, today you can decorate a paper skull.

Drop in during the hours listed. Located in both the Children's Craft Corner and the Story Nook.
