Program Description

Event Details

For centuries music played a central role in the cultures of Ireland and Scotland. And for centuries there were attempts to eradicate their music and instruments. This performance will highlight delightful selections from the Edward Bunting Collection, first published in 1796. Bunting traveled throughout Ireland to capture in written form traditional Irish music before it was lost forever. James Oswald wrote Scottish instrumental music around the same time period that emulates voices of the Scots. Entwyned Early Music will perform and describe Celtic music from Bunting and Oswald and other sources adapted to our instruments: Celtic harp, lutes, historic guitars, Baroque flutes, and Viola da Gamba.

All ages are welcome to attend. A festive kids' craft will be available for little listeners.

This is an after-hours event. Parking lot entrance doors will open for entry 30 minutes prior to the event.

This event and other in this series are sponsored by the Friends of Welles-Turner Memorial Library in memory of Isabella Waters, who was a generous library supporter.

*In the event of inclement weather, this event will be rescheduled*
